Anam Cara Patchwork Classes List

SIT AND SEW – Wednesdays 10 am – 12.30 pm. We have a large group of ladies who enjoy the fellowship of friends and meet new friends whilst stitching a project they are working on. Cuppas provided by Anam Cara.


FRIENDSHIP GROUP – Wednesdays 7 – 9 pm. Bookings essential. This group has also grown since commencing. Come along and attempt to reduce your UFO’s or start a new project?

Cost: $10 per week includes supper

FINISHING SCHOOL – For those who need help with layering quilts ready for quilting, layering, stitching in the ditch, attaching binding, then this is the class for you. Please call in and see us for more details.

Cost: $20 per session

BEGINNER’S CLASS – Contact us to make a time suitable to learn basic patchworking techniques; how to use a rotary cutter, a ruler accurately, patchworking terms etc. This is an essential class before attempting to book into our Sampler class. Cost: $20 per  class (includes use of our cutters and boards).

Beginner’s Starter Kit  – 15% off if you purchase your board, ruler and cutter from us.

NICE PEOPLE, NICE THINGS – Quilt measures: 63” x 81” – Saturdays commencing 6 Feb – 1.30 – 3.30 pm OR Wednesdays commencing 10 Feb – 7 – 9pm

YOU CAN COMMENCE NICE PEOPLE NICE THINGS ANY TIME!! and our current group of participants are enjoying the stitching immensely and doing beautiful work…

Register your name with us to reserve this 52 part block of the week pattern pack. Simply pick up your weekly block which will be transferred onto the background fabric for you and then stay on and join our ‘sit and sews’ on a Wednesday or Saturday. You will also receive an adorable gift box which includes 54 cards with 52 very useable stitchery designs, 52 accompanying verses and sayings plus four appliqué designs at an initial cost of $66.00 for the pack.

Use up lots of your scraps from the stash or you could use a layer cake to keep your blocks within the same colour range. Call into Anam Cara and see Helen Stubbings beautiful sample quilt and how gorgeous it is. It is made up of simply stitcheries and uses a quilt as you go technique. Be surprised with the mystery task for the day. Kit costs will vary each month; however, they will definitely not be more than $35. If you do not attend any class, your kit will be put aside and you will be required to pick it up from the shop. Bring your own lunch.

JELLY ROLL WORKSHOP – Second Sunday bi-monthly – 11.00 am – 3 pm

11 Apr, 13 June, 8 Aug, 10 Oct.  We will start making some amazing quilts using different techniques with Jelly Rolls each class. Bring your own lunch.Cuppas provided.

2010 SAMPLER QUILT – Tuesday Evenings 7 – 9 pm – 2 & 16 Feb; 16 & 30 Mar, 3 & 27 Apr, 11 & 25 May, 8 & 22 Jun, 6 & 20 July, 24 Aug AND Thursday afternoon 1 -3 pm  – 4 & 18 Feb, 4 & 18 Mar, 1, 15 & 29 Apr, 13 & 27 May, 10 & 24 Jun, 8 & 22 July, 26 Aug.

These classes are up and running and being enjoyed by participants. If you know of anyone who would like to learn new skills book in now for Semester 2 Sampler Classes – Tuesday evening OR  Thursday afternoons.

This is a great quilt for beginners to learn many techniques – fabric selection, rotary cutting, machine piecing, foundation and hand piecing, appliqué and finishing your quilt. Please book early to ensure a place.

Cost $210 ($105 on enrolment which ensures your place and final payment of $105 on commencement)

BAGMAKING CLASS – 7 – 9 pm. Friday 7 May, 2 Jul, 3 Sept, 5 Nov) These bag classes have been very popular. After a hectic week, unwind and learn to make some delightful bags with Liz. You will be inspired and have a lot of fun and go home feeling very proud of your project.

Cost: $25

HARDANGER with Jan – (six fortnightly classes commencing Saturday 13 March – 11.00 am – 1.00 pm –10 Apr and 8 & 22 May and 5 June).Second class available – details in next Semester’s Newsletter. Hardanger was created in Norway – in a small town called Hardanger when a group of ladies got together and started stitching on linen. An old craft which is enjoyed and admired, so why not have your own piece to enjoy. Six lessons is all you require to start a sampler.

Cost: $25 per class, plus kit – $20

KIDS CLASS – Tuesday 30 March and 29 June – 1.00 – 3.30 pm – Students will learn the skill of completing an article they will be able to take home and show off to the family.

Cost: $25 which includes kit for the mystery item. BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL.

LOVE NOTES WALL HANGING – Tuesday 6 April – 1.00 – 4.00 pm

This Bareroots pattern utilizes many skills – stitchery, crazy patch, and a variety of embellishments etc to create a beautiful wall hanging or picture to frame. This project is only limited by your imagination.

Class: $35 includes pattern (Starter kits available $40)

HEIRLOOM MACHINE QUILTING with Pam Sturway of Cottage Garden Threads – Sunday 2 May – 10.00 am – 4.00 pm

Heirloom Machine Quilting is a technique learned to enable you to quilt using your domestic sewing machine without having to turn your quilt in the machine. By learning this technique, you will be able to quilt from left to right, right to left, backwards, forwards and around in a circle.

A little word of advice from Pam is to leave all that sewing knowledge you may have at home. Even if you have never sewn a lot, you will be able to learn to Heirloom Machine Quilting.    Book early as numbers limited. Bring your own lunch.

DISAPPEARING NINE PATCH QUILT – Tuesday 4 May 10.30 am – 3.30 pm

A great project for using 5” charm squares. This quilt is easy to make but looks very effective and follows an easy pattern. Book early as this class will fill fast.

Class: $50

HEXAGONS with a difference with Sue E – Sunday 9 May – 1.00pm – 3.30 pm Great class for all you hand stitchers out there. These hexagons are made by using Matilda’s Own plastic templates and hand piecing. Great for a portable project. Come and learn how to make pretty pieced hexagons using either a colour theme or using up your scraps and adding other fabrics to them. Looks great in either a set colour scheme/fabric theme. You will learn how to use the Hana Template (Hana is the Japanese work for flower) – combine three different fabrics for a great effect.

Cost: $25 plus req.

NELLIE’S SEWING BAG – Sunday 30 May – 11 am – 4 pm BYOL. Join this class to complete the ever popular ‘Nellie’s Sewing Bag’ by Rosalie Quinlan. A great way to use up fabrics from your stash. This bag is useful for carrying your stitchery/hexagons, patterns or projects around to stitch at your convenience.

Class: $50 includes pattern

QUILT ‘TIL YOU WILT – Friday 28 May – 6 pm – 10 pm. Bring along a project you are working on and … Quilt ‘til you Wilt. Join us for dinner which will be provided and enjoy a night of fellowship, fun, stitching and working on that UFO or even commence a new one. Book early as numbers limited.

Cost: $55

EMBROIDERY with Pam – Sunday 6 June – 1.00pm – 3.00 pm. For beginners; however, if you have done this class before, Pam will extend your stitchery skills. Come in and see the beautiful sample of a selection of stitches you will learn – chain stitch, back stitch, satin stitch, lazy daisy etc. This class is where you can start to learn the techniques to make some lovely handwork.

Cost: $25 plus requirements

SANTA’S WORKSHOP – First Sunday each month commencing 4 July – 11.00 am – 3.00 pm. (1 Aug, 5 Sept, 3 Oct, 7 Nov, 5 Dec) ‘Santa’s busy preparing special toys for all the good little girls and boys’. Be surprised with the mystery task for the day working towards decorating your house for Christmas or a beautiful gift for a friend.

Costs will vary each month; however, they will be no more than $40 for the kit. Please advice if you are unable to attend on any occasion, and we will hold your kit to be collected the following month.   Bring your own lunch
